From Dining Room Table to Cloud Platform: 25 Years of QuoteWerks
This week I am celebrating my own 25th anniversary as Vice President at QuoteWerks. The company was founded in 1993, but my journey began in 2000 when I joined founder John Lewe as his very first employee.
Our “office” was his dining room table, connected to his home office by a tangle of network cables we strung down the hallway. A few months later, we moved into our first real office, just large enough to squeeze in four desks. Over the years we’ve moved twice more, each space bigger, brighter, and better suited to our growing team, until we arrived at the amazing office we are proud of today.
Watching the Industry Transform
Back in 2000, there were only a handful of quoting software providers. Today, there are hundreds. Despite that explosion of competition, QuoteWerks has remained the market-leading sales quoting and proposal solution for SMBs worldwide.
The landscape has changed dramatically, and so have we:
-
From Desktop to Cloud
Early quoting tools were single-PC installs. Now, cloud-native apps put quoting power in every browser, on any device. QuoteWerks evolved right along with that shift, offering web-hosted, desktop, and hybrid deployments so teams can choose the setup that fits them best. -
The Rise of Hybrid Models
As sales became more distributed, we made sure our customers could mix the reliability of desktop with the flexibility of the web, all sharing one database and one source of truth. -
Speed and Accuracy Became Non-Negotiable
What once took days can now be done in minutes. Real-time distributor pricing, automation, and digital acceptance have turned quoting from a bottleneck into a competitive edge. -
Integration Became the Lifeblood of Sales
A quote is no longer an isolated document. It is the heartbeat of revenue, connected to CRM, procurement, e-signature, and payment systems.
What Hasn’t Changed
Even as competitors multiplied and technology raced forward, our purpose stayed steady: helping businesses sell smarter. QuoteWerks has remained proudly independent in an ecosystem increasingly dominated by giant platforms. That independence allows us to focus on one thing, making quoting fast, accurate, and genuinely enjoyable for the people who depend on it.
I have been lucky to work with an incredible team and a passionate customer community. From two people around a dining room table to a global user base spanning industries, every milestone has been built on collaboration and trust.
Looking Ahead
The next chapter is just as exciting. AI-driven insights, richer integrations, real-time collaboration, and even more flexibility are redefining what a “quote” can be. At QuoteWerks, we are committed to leading that evolution and giving sales teams tools that help them close deals faster without locking them into someone else’s ecosystem.
An Invitation
If you are part of a sales team looking to modernize your quoting process, or if you are simply curious about how far quoting software has come, I would love to connect. There has never been a better time to rethink the humble sales quote.
Here’s to the next 25 years of building technology that helps people win more business, with a little less friction and a lot more fun.
